Professor Ben-Horin is the Chief of the Gastroenterology Department at Sheba Medical Center, Israel. He received his medical and Gastroenterology training in Israel and was a Post-Doc scientist in immunology at Columbia University Presbyterian Hospital in New-York. Prof. Ben-Horin specializes in inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD) and his main research focus is biologic drug mechanisms and monitoring of IBD. He is a Full Professor of Medicine at the Tel-Aviv University, and was an Adjunct Professor of Medicine at the Sun Yat-Sen University Hospital, Guangzhou, China, where he worked as a visiting professor for one year in 2015-2016. He has published over 250 peer-reviewed scientific papers and has previously served as a member of the Scientific Committee of the European Crohn’s & Colitis Organization (ECCO) and as the Chair of the Israeli IBD Society. 

At present, Shomron is a member of the Editorial Board of the journals Gut, APT and JCC, a member of the International Organization of IBD (IOIBD) and is a frequent invited Distinguished Speaker in international meetings.  He has been the co-founder of two Start-up companies and is also the Director of IBD-passport: A web-based global non-for-profit support program for traveling IBD patients.
